Wood Density

The basic density is the mass per unit volume, expressed in kilograms per cubic metre (kg/m3) when the moisture content is zero. Basic density can be thought of as the amount of wood in the fuel.

The tables and charts below show measured values for basic density and green density (you may switch between these using the parameter filter). The green density was calculated using the moisture content at the time of harvesting.

Conversion of basic density to green density and bulk density

The table below presents the average basic density of user selected species and partitions. The user may also select a bulk volume factor and moisture content to see the effect of these parameters on the bulk and green density values.
